India Design Council

Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industries constituted 'India Design Council' as part of implementation of the National Design Policy in 2007 by the Government of India.

Following are the founder members of the 'India Design Council'

The first meeting was organized under the chairmanship of Mr Anand Mahindra on 18 Jun at Mahindra Towers, Mumbai. Shri Pradyumna Vyas informed the members about how the National Design Policy was adopted by the government in 2007 and the subsequently constituted the India Design Council in Mar 2009. He explained the need of India Design Council while many small countries like Korea, Singapore, Germany and UK established design councils long ago for better quality of life.

Following 3 task force teams are set up to submit their recommendations by next meeting
scheduled on Sep14.

1.  Role of Design Council as a Regulatory body for accreditation of
     Design Education. It would comprise:

Mr. Ganesh Prabhu, IIM-Banglore,
Mr. Jagdish Hinduja, Chairman, Gokuldas Images Ltd, Bangalore and
Mr. Shrikant Nivsarkar, President, IFI, Pune

Its mandate is to study the role of various design councils as regulatory body for accreditation of Design Education and suggest whether India Design Council should bench mark standards and syllabus or regulate / accreditation of design education. Task force should present their recommendation in six months.

2.  To study of standards for India Design Mark. It would comprise:

The report is to be presented in two months.

3.  To study and recommend the tax benefits or incentive for Design        Investment in industry, research organizations & institutions.
      The team would comprise:
