Design Idea Fair 2007 (DIF07)

Encouraged by the massive response received from DIF06 at New Delhi in December 2006,Design Idea Fair 2007 (DIF07) was organised at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre on 12-13 December 2007 to coincide with the 7th CII-NID Design Summit.

The Fair was inaugurated at 11.30 am on 12th December 2007 by Shri Mahendra Jain, IAS, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Industries, Government of Karnataka, in presence of Mr. Antonio Amellini, Italian Ambassador to India and Mr HK Mittal, Adviser & Head (NEB) DST, New Delhi.

Forty five panels showcasing 46 ideas/concepts/products from NID students/faculty/staff and alumni were displayed at the Fair which attracted about 200 dignitaries and delegates attending the Design Summit.

Some of the products/ ideas which attracted  interest from the industry are:

  1. Saltpan shoes
  2. Ceramic/ Glassware for luxury hotels
  3. Cooling-heating jacket
  4. Collapsible cloth hanger
  5. Computer based interactive games at the Fair
  6. Bridal jewelry collection
  7. Two-in-one Toothbrush.

Samarth Mungali who was extended product and business development support at NDBI, has been crowned India's first "simplicity champ" from amongst 8,000 contestants at the Philips Simplicity Challenge contest for his innovative syringe. He has also won cash award of Rs.15 lakhs.
