Business Incubation

Business Incubation is a highly flexible holistic business development process designed to nurture and promote newer and niftier businesses ideas through in-built hand-holding exercises which support start-up and fledging companies through their infancy stages. A business incubator’s main goal is to create successful firms that will leave the program financially viable and freestanding. Successful incubatees would have the potential to commercialize idea, create jobs and ultimately contribute to the national economy.

NDBI provides critical business guidance, technical assistance and mentoring support to its incubatees in a structured business environment. Incubatees at NDBI are given independent workstations, shared basic business services and equipments, and technology support services and guidance in sourcing Seed/ VC Fund for their start-ups.

Physical Incubation

For physical incubation, the startup is required to register and operate from NDBI premises physically. Physical incubatees are also eligible for service tax exemption either to a max of 3 years or on attaining revenue of Rs. 50 lakhs p.a.

Incubation Cycle

Incubation cycle involves the following broad steps

  • Application for incubation
  • Selection of incubatees
  • Signing of Memorandum of understanding with incubatees
  • Providing access to technology and related networks, infrastructure and services to selected incubatees
  • Commercialization Activity - formation of an enterprise, business plan, market research, consultancy, legal, finance and other support
  • Periodic assessment of the incubatee
  • Graduation of the incubatee

Facillity

These among others include:

  • Dedicated air-conditioned office space with furniture, a desktop computer, high speed internet access, access to high end design software, conferencing facilities, etc. The incubatees are free to use their laptops and desktops as per their requirement.
  • Network by which one could access specialists and research labs to develop or to improve the innovative technology including research, testing facilities, materials, prototyping, design, etc.
  • IPR consultants for help in registering patent, copyright and trademarks.
  • Legal experts for firm incorporation, venture capitalist, market research firms, advertisement agencies and PR firms, finance and management forums, faculty mentoring, databases, help in preparing business plan for the incubatee product/design, access to facilities like library, telecom, photocopying machine, canteen, etc.
  • Physical Incubatees of NDBI are eligible for Service Tax Exemption for three years upto a max Rs.50 lakhs turnover as per the recent notification of Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

Funding

NDBI helps the entrepreneurs incubated here through venture ready funding in the start-ups or raising venture finance for them. Some of the funds that NDBI leverages include:

  • VRF: Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, (DIPP) is extending support to outstanding start-ups at NDBI through venture ready scheme.
  • TePP: NDBI with the support of Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, (DSIR) is implementing this novel programme 'Technopreneur Promotion Programme' (TePP), to enable the innovation skills of individual innovators. As part of this program, NDBI helps in raising upto Rs 15 lakh as grant for any innovator who wants to develop a prototype based on his/her idea.
  • VC Funding: Facilitate Angel/VC funding

Tenure in NDBI

Physical Incubatees will be permitted to stay in NDBI for a period of 18 months. NDBI holds indisputable right to decide on giving further extension of 6 months or more or terminate the stay of the startup depending on the case concerned.

Registration and support Fee

To register as physical incubatee, the startup company has to pay a refundable deposit of a minimum Rs 15,000 or 4 times of support fee whichever is higher, the amount decided at the time of incubation.  Each physical incubatee is also required to pay a monthly support fee to the incubator depending upon the support extended.
